On January 11, 2021, Anushka Sharma and Virat Kohli became a family of three, as they were blessed with their first son, a daughter. The power couple, who have been in the limelight ever since, decided not to reveal the identity of their daughter Wamika because they wanted her to grow up in an environment where she would have confidentiality and would not be constantly scrutinized by the media.
In an interview to Vogue India, the actress had said, “We have given a lot of thought to this. We definitely don’t want to raise a child in the public eye – we don’t plan to engage our child in social media. I think your child should be able to make that decision. No child should be made more special than another. Adults are hard enough to deal with. It’s going to be tough, but we want to follow. ”
The couple has fulfilled their promise to protect their daughter’s privacy by not showing their daughter’s face on social media.
The pair made a statement through their Instagram stories after photos of Wamika accidentally surfaced while watching the game with Wamika by zooming in on the camera Anushka during the India v South Africa match. The image lasted about 10 seconds and the first glimpse of Wamika’s face appeared.
The statement reads, “Hello friends! We learn that photos of our daughter were taken at the stadium yesterday and have since been widely shared. We wanted to let everyone know that we had been caught unawares and had no idea the camera was on us. Our role and request in this regard is the same. If Wamika’s images weren’t clicked / published for the reasons we mentioned earlier, we would really appreciate it. Virat has shared the same note on his Instagram stories.
The couple has repeatedly appealed to the media not to reveal their child’s identity. While the couple was on their way to South Africa in December, Virat had requested the paparazzi not to catch Wamika, and a few days later Anushka thanked the media and asked those who wanted to do so in the future.
