The BBL draft, which will take place in the coming months, will give all clubs the opportunity to recruit three primary foreign players for their 2022 squad.
Nominations for the draft are open to players from around the world on Wednesday (June 22). BBL, along with our club, has been interacting positively with players and agents for some time and is eager to announce the first nominations.
In addition, the ban on the BBL 2022 agreement has now been lifted, meaning clubs can hold binding discussions with Australian players.
There has been no change in the mechanism by which domestic players are recruited.

BBL 2022 Draft: How it works
The draft is the primary way to recruit their foreign players for the upcoming season.
Player Nomination and Category
Players around the world are now able to register for the BBL 2022 draft through the online registration portal, which includes their part or availability for the entire tournament.
Players can be selected in Draft Night in 4 categories namely Platinum, Gold, Silver and Bronze. The salary for each category is set at globally competitive rates, with Platinum being the player’s highest salary.
Draft order
The draft order will be decided by weighted lottery.
The first weighted lottery will be entered to select one, two and three of the three teams that make it to the finals in BBL 2021.
Four to eight of last season’s five finals will be drawn.
Draft round
Each club in the draft will have 4 rounds with one pick. Clubs can choose to pass in certain rounds, but each club must select a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 3 players until round 4 is completed.
The first round is for Platinum players only and will follow the order of the draft drawn by the above method. Round two will follow the same order as Round One, followed by Round Three and Four Snacking orders.
Perception selection
Each club has the right to choose the concept to be used in any round of the draft. If a player played for that club last season, he deserves to be retained.
Total players and replacements
Each club’s BBL team will consist of 18 players, including two or three foreign players in the draft and the rest domestic players.
After the draft, clubs will be able to sign 5 replacement foreign players. Unless approved by the league, a player must be nominated for a draft to become a qualified foreign player.
