For a long time, The Rock has been rumored to be the main part of the show, as it is the biggest box office attraction in the Hollywood market that WWE can expect to present at the event.
WWE wants to book him in a dream match against his cousin Roman Reyns. However, the match cannot be confirmed until Brahma Bull takes some time out of his busy shooting schedule and WWE is well aware of this precarious situation. If rock is not available, the authorities have a backup option for the marquee match.
According to the Wrestling Observer newsletter’s Dave Meltzer, if WWE can’t book Roman Reese vs. The Rock next year, they will have Cody Rhodes vs. Reigns for the undisputed WWE Universal title as the main event of WrestleMania 39.
Cody is expected to be operational six months after surgery to repair the torn peck muscle. In a heroic effort, he wrestled with an injury and defeated Seth Rollins in the Hell in a Cell main event.
According to reports, the top RAW superstar Royal Rumble is expected to make a comeback around 2023 and will be treated with a huge fan following whenever that happens. So, WWE is heading to the Top Heel Storyline vs. Top Babyface for the biggest event of the year.
“He will be out for about six months, making the Royal Rumble a smart time frame for a comeback,” Meltzer wrote in his report. “If Dwayne Johnson doesn’t fight the Roman Reigns, he will return to the Reigns against Rhodes and have the greatest potential in next year’s frenzy.”
Rock’s last full-length match in the WWE was at WrestleMania 29 in 2013, where he lost the WWE Championship to John Cena. That night, he suffered a hernia injury that significantly delayed the production of his film Hercules.
Since then The Great One has never fought a fair match in the WWE, as film insurance did not allow him to enter the WWE ring as he progressed.
The good news is that The Rock has a clear movie schedule for early 2023, and it may have been deliberately made to appear on WWE TV at Road to WrestleMania 39.
