ODI team’s lowest score ever | England recorded the lowest ODI score against India

Jaspreet Bumrah

After captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and elected to field, the fast bowlers Bumrah and Shami took full advantage of the cloud cover and the grass remaining at the crease.

Bumrah struck twice in the first over of the match when he dismissed England opener Jason Roy and leading batsman Joe Root for zero. Shami then caught England captain Ben Stokes on the red ball to Rishabh Pant. With the team scoring just seven, the hosts’ top three batsmen returned to the dressing room without scoring.

Bumrah then dismissed Johnny Bairstow for seven as England lost their fourth wicket in just 5.3 overs. Bumrah dismissed Liam Livingstone for zero and England lost 5 wickets in 10 overs.

In the second powerplay, young pacer chief Krishna caught a sharp reflex in the follow-through, ending Moin Ali’s 14-run stand and breaking his partnership with skipper Jose Butler.

Rohit soon introduced Shami for the second spell and the senior pacer got the wicket of Butler – the team’s highest run scorer (30) – and the English were 59 for 7 in 15 overs. Bumrah was attacked once again and the right-arm fast bowler ended the hosts’ innings at 110 and returned with his best ODI figure of 6/19.

Bumrah completely destroyed England’s batting with his two world-class spells and became the first Indian fast bowler to take 6 wickets in England. It was the best performance by any bowler at the Oval, London, and the fourth best on any ground in England.

England were all out for 110 in 25.2 overs, their lowest ODI score against India.
