LOS ANGELES – The Los Angeles Dodgers added outfielder Trace Thompson to the active roster on Tuesday after taking possession from the Detroit Tigers for cash.
Thompson returned to the Dodgers after spending parts of the 2016 and 2017 seasons with them. He scored .207 runs in 107 games during that period, including 14 home runs and 34 RBIs.
The 31-year-old outfielder, whose older brother, Kyle, plays for NBA champion Golden State Warriors, started the season with San Diego. A week later he joined Detroit and was sent to Triple-A Toledo, where he batted in 25 games with eight homers and 19 RBIs. 299.
Thompson’s figures help fill the void left by right-hander Mookie Bates, who is on the IL with a broken bar.
The Dodgers open a nine-game road trip Tuesday night in Cincinnati.
In other moves, left-handed pitcher Caleb Ferguson landed on the injured list with left-handed tendinitis. This is his second term in the IL. He is 0-0 with a 0.00 ERA in five innings.
The right-handed Walker Boiler was replaced in the 60-day IL to make way for Thompson.
