BOSTON – Red Sox all-star third baseman Raphael Devers is set to miss the next two games against the New York Yankees as he had to leave early due to back pain.

“He’s out today and tomorrow. We’ll see how he feels on Monday. We have to take care of him,” Boston manager Alex Cora said before Saturday night’s game.

On Friday, the 25-year-old Davers was named the American League’s starting third baseman for the second year in a row.

A few hours later, Davers suffered a back injury when he collided with a side train heading for a file ball at Fenway Park. He looked weird as he swung his next bat before leaving the game.

Davers is leading the batting average (.327) and Homers (19) with 51 RBIs. He finished second in the Majors on Saturday with 106 hits.

Boston have lost the first two games of a four-match series against their AL ex-major rivals.
