The 33-year-old’s last international century came in 2019 and his disappointing performance in the Test and T20I series against England continued, as he managed just 11 and 20 in the Edgbaston Test and only 12 in his two innings in the T20I. ,
Despite all the setbacks, BCCI president Sourav Ganguly backed him to get back on his scoring path.
“Of course, their numbers in international cricket are not without potential and quality. Yes, he has had a hard time and he knows it.
“He’s a great player himself. He knows for a fact that he didn’t do well by his own standards, and I see him coming back and doing well. But he has to find his own way and succeed, which he has been doing for the last 12-13 years and only Virat Kohli can do that, BCCI president Sourav Ganguly told ANI.
Virat Kohli’s poor form has been widely criticized and some former cricketers like Kapil Dev and Venkatesh Prasad have questioned his place in the T20 squad.
“These things will happen in the game. It has happened to everyone. It happened to Sachin, it happened to Rahul, it happened to me, it happened to Kohli. It will happen to future players.
Sourav Ganguly explained, “It’s part of the game and I think as a player you just have to listen, be aware of it and just play your game.”
Virat Kohli will have to perform and get back on his scoring path or it could be difficult to get a place in the Indian squad for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2022 to be held in Australia from October 16.
