Anaheim, California. – The Seattle Mariners on Friday ranked veteran first baseman Ty France on the 10-day injury list with a left corner injury.

The club made the announcement ahead of the Mariners’ game against Los Angeles Angeles. Seattle filled the roster spot by recalling Drew Ellis, the third baseman in the Triple-A Tacoma.

The 27-year-old France had a 2-1 win over the Auckland Athletics on Thursday due to injury, but after the win he said he hoped to avoid playing in the IL.

Athletics ’Sheldon News hit France’s left arm while running to the first bottom after France extended to catch a throw from shortstop JP Crawford at the bottom of the fifth inning. France immediately fell to the ground and grabbed his hand in pain. He left the field on his own.

Seattle manager Scott Servis said the X-rays were negative but Friday’s MRI showed movement was necessary.

France are batting for Seattle this season with 10 home runs and 45 RBIs. 316. He was 2-0-0 in that victory.

Seattle also announced before the game that it had bought outfielder Trey Amburgi in a trade with the Cincinnati Reds. Amburgi has played 39 games with Triple-A Louisville this season.
