Saha, who has played 40 Tests, has already received NOC from the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB).
“We have discussed with Saha and he has agreed to play for the state,” said Kishore Das, joint secretary of the Tripura Cricket Association (TCA). He will also serve as a senior team guide to motivate players.
He further said that TCA expects wicketkeeper-batsman Saha to sign the contract by July 15.
Given his vast experience in international cricket and domestic cricket, Das said the players would benefit greatly if Saha joined the team.
“It is unknown at this time what he will do after leaving the post. This will be decided later.
He is expected to play Ranji Trophy and Vijay Hazare Trophy matches for Tripura.
Saha, who will turn 38 in October, has decided to leave Bengal following allegations by CAB joint secretary Debabrata ‘Debu’ Das that the veteran defender is causing the state to miss home matches.
With increments
The enraged Saha wanted an unconditional apology from Das, which he did not receive, and when this officer was sent to England as the administrative manager of the Indian team, he broke the camel’s collar.
He had said that he would never harbor hatred against Bengal and was ready to serve again if needed in the future.
Since making his debut against Hyderabad in 2007, the Siliguri-born Saha has played 122 first-class and 102 List A games. He has also played 40 Tests and nine ODIs for India.
Prior to the home Test series against Sri Lanka earlier this year, the Indian team management had told Saha in no uncertain terms that he would not be considered for India’s future role. Saha also missed the Ranji Trophy season but later played for the Gujarat Titans in the IPL 2022.
