Nick Kyrgios, a Wimbledon semifinalist, will face charges of assault in an Australian court.

Wimbledon semifinalist Nick Kyrgios will appear in court next month and will face charges of assault over a domestic dispute with an ex-girlfriend late last year, officials said.

Jason Moffett, a lawyer representing Kyrgios, told the Australian Canberra Times that he had been made aware of the case and that Kyrgios was aware of the allegations.

“The nature of the allegations is serious and Mr. Kyrgios takes these allegations very seriously,” Moffett told the newspaper.

Kyrgios will have to face a court date on August 2, police said.

“Given that the case is in court … they have no comment at this stage, but we will issue a media release in due course,” Moffett said.

Kyrgios, 27, will play Chile’s Christian Garin on Wednesday. He reached this stage of the competition for the first time since his debut in 2014.

Kyrgios’ Grand Slam run has not been without controversy. He received a 10,000 fine for spitting on spectators at the end of the first round match and a ,000 4,000 fine for audible obscenity during the stormy victory over Stefanos Tsitsipas in the third round.
