Materi, la. – Defensive end of the New Orleans Saints Marcus Davenport amputated his left pink finger this season after breaking a plate from previous surgery and experiencing infection.
Davenport, who underwent surgery on his right shoulder in January, is expected to recover from training camp. But a finger problem caused an unexpected crack in his schedule.
Davenport said his pink finger has been suffering since he broke his ligament for the first time in his junior year at the 2016 ball game in Texas-San Antonio. After taking turns over time, it was finally surgically repaired in 2021. But then he broke the plate he wore this off-season and underwent three more surgeries, finally having a mutilation.
Davenport doesn’t believe it will affect his performance, as he has learned to adapt to the bent finger in the past. He said he had a positive attitude in the off-season due to injury.
The 6-foot-6, 265-pounder has shown tremendous potential in his four-year career, highlighting the best nine sacks of his career in just 11 games last season. However, he has missed a total of 18 games with various ailments including leg, leg, elbow, shoulder and chest injuries.
Saints opted for a fifth-year option for the 2022 season for 9.5 million. Former first-round draft pick, he is set to become an unrestricted free agent in 2023.
