HOUSTON – Houston’s Kyle Tucker was thrown out of the house Thursday night after New York Yankees starter Luis Severino tampered with his damaged pitchcom machine.
Alex Bragman recently hit a two-run double to give Houston a 2-0 lead and Tucker was third for two in the third inning.
At Yuli Guerrilla’s bat, the frustrated Severino took off his hat and stuck the pitchcom speaker in his ear, unable to hear Jose Trevino’s instructions.
Tucker noticed that Severino was distracted and tried to break into the house. Severino had a pitchcom earpiece in his right hand and had to do a quick trick to get the baseball back into the throwing hand. He grabbed his hat and threw it home, and his throw defeated Tucker and ended the inning.
Pitchcom digital pitch-calling devices, which transmit signals from catcher to pitcher, were introduced to large companies this season. The system was created to prevent sign theft in the wake of Astro’s 2017 scandal.
