The 31-year-old right-handed batsman is the uncapped player in the IPL for six consecutive seasons, the 2022 edition being his best performance as he scored a total of 413 runs for Sunrisers Hyderabad with a strike-rate of 158.24.

The son of an Army soldier, Tripathi has been consistently performing well in the IPL and his home team Maharashtra. “This is a great opportunity, a dream come true (moment) and (I) appreciate it,” Tripathi told PTI.

He said, “I am just happy that the selectors and everyone believed in me and that my hard work paid off. And hopefully if I get a chance to play I will try my best. In local competitions, Tripathi has the honor of hitting six sixes twice in an over.

Tripathi, who plays for the prestigious Deccan Gymkhana Club, one of the oldest clubs in Pune, has scored 2,540 first-class runs in 47 matches. He has also captained Maharashtra in domestic cricket.
