The New Jersey Devils have signed former Tampa Bay Lightning winger Lady Platoon who will bring veteran Stanley Cup champions to their youth front roster.
The Devils signed Palt on a five-year deal with an average annual value of $ 6 million, a source told ESPN, confirming several reports.
The 31-year-old Platt played his entire 10-year career with Lightning, scoring 143 goals and 280 assists in 628 games. He is known as an all-round stable two-way player: capable of playing both wings as well as up and down lineups, endowed with high-level skill players and role-playing.
He’s also great as a post-season performer. During Lightning’s back-to-back Stanley Cup victory, the platoon had 31 points in 48 games. After losing to the Colorado Avengers in the Cup final, Stanley had 21 points from 23 post-season games, including three game-winning goals.
The Devils have reached the playoffs only once in the last 10 years, not since 2018.
Pallet is one of three forwards over the age of 30 on the current Devils roster.
The Devils were one of the teams to lose to superstar free agent winger Johnny Godruch on Wednesday after the NHL Free Agency opened, as the former Flames opted to sign with the Columbus Blue Jacket.
