SAN FRANCISCO – NBA Commissioner Adam Silver canceled plans to participate in Game 5 of the NBA Finals between the Golden State Warriors and the Boston Celtics on Monday night due to the league’s health and safety protocol.
Silver usually participates in all final games.
The league did not say whether Silver tested positive for the Covid-19 or whether he is believed to have had close contact with someone who did not provide information about his condition.
It is also not clear when Silver will start participating in the Games. His role as commissioner includes handing over the league’s championship trophy, which will be presented to the team on Thursday in Boston or Sunday in San Francisco.
Silver has been the NBA commissioner since February 2014. This is the league’s ninth championship series during his tenure, including the 2020 season, which resumed in the bubble in the early stages of the epidemic at Walt Disney World in Florida.
