Kohli looked a bit drawn as Matthew Potts tried to drop the ball outside the off-stump. But after taking deflection from his bat, the ball hit his stumps.
On his way back to the pavilion, Kohli had a sad smile on his face.
Kohli’s last international century was in December 2019 and since then he has gone through the longest recession with nearly 50 runs.
Kohli is currently stuck with 27 Test centuries and 43 ODI centuries.
So is Kohli really going to retire from cricket? Or will he retire from at least one format like T20I to focus on ODI and Test cricket?
We can safely say that Kohli has not considered retirement at this stage. After the 5th Test against England, Kohli will play two T20 and ODI matches against the same team later this month.
Kohli is on his way to play the ICC T20I World Cup 2022 in Australia later this year and a decision on his T20 future could be made thereafter.
Apart from this, under the chairmanship of head coach Rahul Dravid, Kohli also has the support of teammates and management.
“He’s the hardest man I’ve ever seen – his appetite, his desire and the way he dresses and looks at himself.
“The way he played in the practice match at Leicester, he was looking forward to playing against our bowlers like Bumrah. He’s ticking the box all right. “I don’t think he needs any extra motivation,” Dravid said.
“You are going through such stages and it is not about focusing on those three figures. People see the century as a success, but from the coach’s point of view we need a contribution from him to win the match. He inspires a lot of people in the dressing room, ”said Dravid.
