Age fraud: BAI secretary visits parents in Mohali, assures strict action

Mishra went to Mohali on Saturday (July 2) to personally interact with the parents during the tournament and spent about an hour listening to the complaints of the parents, who were protesting against the players who claimed to have grown up.

After the meeting, Mishra assured them that the BAI IDs of two players found guilty of submitting suspicious documents during registration would be canceled, while other players nominated by the parents would be thoroughly investigated.

“Further action will be taken against those found guilty after a meeting of the age-fraud committee to determine the extent of further action,” Mishra said in a press release.

After the meeting, there was a discussion on whether to withdraw the rating points of the resumed competition.

But Mishra said BAI did not take any such decision and gave the organizers an opportunity to make it clear that they do not have the right to decide on such an important issue.

“Whether the points of the tournament will be cut or canceled is entirely up to BAI’s decision and not that of any outsider as in this case some locals have created confusion and disputes between the parents and they have no business to entertain. .

“BAI has not reduced or canceled any marks,” he added. A similar scam was uncovered during the sub-junior badminton tournament held in Hyderabad from June 19 to 25. Several reports claim that about fifty percent of the total participants in the sub-junior competition were elderly.

As reported in the Deccan Herald, the coach of the Khelo India Educational Academy alleged that not only are the players older, but they are also above the age limit of six months or more. As reported in DH, the coach said, “There are a lot of gamers who are not six months or older, by lottery. More than 60 percent of the participants are elderly.

The coach further said, “Actually there is fraud in birth certificates, but many people are playing the game by submitting medical certificates instead of birth certificates to BAI.”
