India’s stand-in skipper Jaspreet Bumrah preferred Broad’s consistent short-of-a-length bowling at Edgbaston as he hit two sixes and four fours in six balls.
Five wide and scattered singles on the last ball of the over gave Broad an astonishing 35, nearly seven more than the previous record held by the three players combined.
Anderson was one of three bowlers to score 28 runs in an over earlier – Australia’s George Bailey stocked him in all parts of the WACA ground in Perth in 2013 – and the England veteran said Bumrah’s insane batting was unfortunate for Broad.

Anderson said, “The next day, one of the upper bouts featured a straight arm. If they take it, no one talks about the over.
“I thought it was very unfortunate. A lot of top shots, some good shots but that’s the plan (captain) Ben (Stokes) to go with Brody.
“Brody clings to him, and the next day, when luck is on Stuart, he’ll have an edge.”

With centuries from Rishabh Pant and Ravindra Jadeja – bravery with Bumrah’s bat – India have well established themselves on stumps on the second day of the rescheduled fifth Test, in which England are 84/5 at the end of the day. Bowling to the audience
Bumrah did the most damage with three wickets but Mohammad Siraj found Joe Root’s valuable palate and Mohammad Shami bowled well on the new ball.

The saving grace for England is that the pair of Ben Stokes and Johnny Bairstow in form is unbeaten overnight and Anderson is confident the pair will face India’s dangerous fast bowlers when they resume on Sunday.
Anderson said, “I think our best defense will be attacking.
“The way we have pulled ourselves out of difficult situations over the last few weeks is trying to put pressure on the opposition and I don’t see it as different.
“We want to score, we want to move the game and we’ll try to do the same.”
