Englewood, Colo. – When Denver Broncos linebacker Baron Browning started his rookie season in 2021, he got the brightest spot in his sixth consecutive playoff miss.
The third-round pick came back with some off-season injuries – Rookie Minicamp injured his right leg – on the inside linebacker to start Game Nine. He played more snaps on defense than any other linebacker except Malik Reid.
And then – despite all the potential he was shown to be a threat – the new Broncos coaching staff cast him as the Edge Rusher this off-season. The teammate says the move has worked.
“It’s crazy when you think of Baron,” said linebacker Bradley Chubb outside the Broncos. “The natural skills she has for this position are amazing. You see him go and he just shrugs his shoulders. He thinks he’s doing it, but in the movie he looks like the strangest thing ever. “

When the Broncos canceled their off-season event last month, Browning had already done enough to overcome the ego-to-cow-to-raw phase of the position move. When he returns in July, Pass-Rushers Wave general manager George Patton has called for this off-season, with Browning in the lead.
Chaban, who missed nine games last season after surgery on his left ankle, has recovered from the team’s off-season work and says he is ready for the big year. He is in the final year of his rookie deal.
The Broncos have signed a 70 million deal with Randy Gregory – the team’s biggest off-season move for quarterback Russell Wilson – with the aim of adding Gregory as a primary outfielder in Chubby. But Chabe hasn’t played a full season since his rookie year in 2018, and Gregory has never played every game of the season.
So the Broncos used the second-round pick over outside linebacker Nick Bonito and went to Browning. So Browning, who once again entered the season to work as a linebacker in the starting lineup, said he didn’t care if the position move would cost him potential game time. What could this mean?
“I wanted to make some kind of move, but he felt that way,” Browning said. “… I didn’t care at all. I just focus on the competition every day and that’s my mentality. … Once I get there, I’ll worry about the training camp.
“He’s someone we saw a few things on tape last year [being a pass-rusher] He can do anything, “said Broncos coach Nathaniel Hackett.
Hackett doesn’t see Browning as a hybrid player who will act as a pass-rusher as well as an inside linebacker. He said the team’s defensive coaches want to focus on Browning’s new role to improve these skills.
And by all accounts, he has shown enough on the field, especially when it comes to his flexibility and maintains his balance and advantage when working on the outside shoulder of an offensive tackle. Former Broncos outside linebacker von Miller spoke of the importance of taking “shocks” on the shoulders and arms while maintaining regular speed and advantage.
After learning from Miller, Chubb is now moving on to what Browning knows. Chubla also has some information about changing positions. He played more as a defensive end in college, often escaping from a three-point role, but went to the linebacker outside the Broncos, almost never in a three-point stunt.
“He came home and asked me what I see from his play,” Chub said. “I’m trying to be there for him like Vaughn, and when I first came and went, those people were there for me. I was so happy to see the natural things she had. Once he started adding those things, the little things, the little things, it’s going to end. ”
The Broncos division – AFC West – is full of high-end pass-runners, after a flurry of proven quarterbacks and off-season. His reaction was to Gregory’s signature on the Broncos, Bonito’s selection in the draft and Browning’s crash course.
