Padres Jurickson Pro collapses after a terrifying outfield collision with CJ Abrams, carted off the field

SAN DIEGO – San Diego Padres left-arm fielder Jurickson Profer collapsed when he tried to get off the field after a terrifying collision with striker shortstop CJ Abrams and was then placed on a stretcher and taken into a car Thursday night.

Profer and Abrams both went off in the fifth inning after San Francisco Giants’ Joy Bart hit a flyball on a shallow left field. Abrams was caught behind his back to the infield and his left knee hit Profer in the left jaw as the left fielder saw himself positioned for a diving catch.

The professor was rolling on his back and screaming in pain. He was hooked for several minutes and sat in one place. He tried to get on the field with the coaches, but he collapsed in the dust of the field.

Before the medical cart arrived, he was surrounded by training staff for a few more minutes. The proffer was placed on a stretcher before unloading. His companions were watching from a few feet away.

The professor was taken to UC San Diego Health for further evaluation, the team said.

Abram stayed in the game.
