2023 ESPN 300 DE Jason Moore Commits to Ohio State Buckeyes Football Program, ‘Prepared to Face Big Competition in Every Game’

Jason Moore became the latest addition to Ohio State’s emerging class after committing Sunday night.

Moore, a 6-foot-6, 260-pound defensive end at Dematha Catholic High in Heightsville, Maryland, ranks 41st in the 2023 ESPN 300.

“I’d say stay out of that environment,” Moore told ESPN about her decision. “I felt very comfortable with everyone. I felt like this was an environment where I would be inspired to be the best version of myself on and off the field. That’s the decent thing to do, and it should end there. “

Florida wide receiver Brandon Inis (No. 25) and Moore, who joined the Ohio State 2023 group, are Buckeye’s second-highest-ranking recruits after Plantation.

The Buckeyes now have 11 ESPN 300 chances and Moore is their second defensive ESPN 300 prospect (cornerback Dijon Johnson; No. 113). His class ranks second overall in ESPN’s rankings.

He was considering three other schools: Michigan, Notre Dame and Penn State. New Ohio State Defensive Coordinator Jim Knowles and longtime defensive line coach Larry Johnson give senior Moore a good glimpse of how they project.

“I know they definitely represent a lot of different people,” Moore said. “He showed me a Joy Bosa – he was watching his body grow when he got on campus, even after he left campus. It is definitely close to my body size. That was one of the comparisons he made to me. “

Moore recorded 73 tackles and 14 sacks for Dematha Catholic in 2021. A highly regarded recruit in the DMV arena, he won several first-team honors last season – All-WCAC, All-Mate and Washington Pigskin Club.

“Probably the (strongest) side because I’ve played there my whole life,” Moore said. “But I’m starting to play a lot for my high school team. So I’m trying to get the most out of both positions. I need to be the best in both positions.

He had an official meeting with all four of his finalists last month. His desire to play against the best finally won the day.

“I like to think I’m in the Big Ten and going to play great competition in every sport,” Moore said. “Very competitive. I’m definitely looking forward to the Michigan-Ohio State Championship. I like to think I’m playing in the Big Ten.”
