Wet Miss defeated Oklahoma to win her first CWS title

Wet Miss scored three runs twice on wild pitches in the eighth inning and the rebels won their first national baseball title with a 4-2 win over Oklahoma in the College World Series final on Sunday.

The Rebels (42-23) became the eighth national champions to be eliminated from the Southeast Conference since 2009 and the trophy will remain in the state of Magnolia for the second year in a row. Won the state of Mississippi last year.

Wet Miss took advantage of a runner call from Oklahoma (45-24) in the sixth inning. The Rebels also outscored Cade Horton’s excellent pitching performance and set a CWS final record with 13 strikes.

Brandon Johnson led the team 1-2-3 in the ninth inning, catcher Hayden Dunhurst ran up the hill to hug and then Sebastian Orduno swung and faced Johnson after losing the final pitch.

The last team to receive a big bid for the NCAA Tournament, the rebels won 2-1 in the eighth inning. Trevin Michaels dropped Horton for the wicket and Jacob Gonzalez hit a single to the right in the tying run.

Michael (4-2) then melted, opening the wild pitches that led Justin Bench and another Gonzalez to the lead.

Hunter Elliott hit three sixes in 6 1/3 innings. Mason Nichols and John Gaddis (4-2) put Johnson in ninth place.

During a sterling 107-pitch performance, Horton allowed four hits and went none.

Oklahoma appeared to take a 1-0 lead in the sixth game, but John Spicerman, who had thrown a squeeze bunt, was called in for a runner’s intervention as he tried to catch Elliott’s throw. First baseman Tim Elko was called. Blocking.

Jackson Nicklaus led Elliott in this inning and was third after the victim and the wild pitch. He came home on Spykerman’s bunt, but when Spykerman was called for a video review by weight loss coach Mike Bianco, he was first called safe.

Spykerman hit Alco’s glove as he ran first, the ball went into the wrong zone. The call was reversed, Spikerman decided to stay inside the baseline when the bag ran out, Nicklaus needed to go back to third base.
