United midfielder Tyler Adams has agreed to join Leeds United, sources told ESPN, adding that the transfer set will be announced this week.

Adams, 23, has signed a € 17m deal with the Premier League from RB Leipzig, which will increase to £ 23m with add-ons, sources told ESPN.

The star of the US men’s national team will travel to Leeds for his medical treatment in the next 48 hours, shortly after which an announcement will be made.

The move reunited Adams with his former manager, Jesse Marsh, who trained him at both the New York Red Bull and Leipzig. The US will replace international midfielder Calvin Phillips, who officially joined Manchester City on Monday.

Adams is set to become the fourth signer during Marsh’s tenure, three of whom have previously worked with Leeds manager.

Leeds announced in May that they had signed an M28m deal with FC Salzburg and USMNT forward Brendan Aronson. The Premier League team has added Danish right-back Rasmus Christensen and Bayern Munich’s Mark Roca in the 11m field for around € 12m.

Adams has been an important part of Leipzig’s team since joining Major League Soccer in 2019. He is equally adept at defensive play in central midfield and elsewhere. If he completes the journey, he will leave Leipzig after winning the DFB-Pokal with the team last season.
