His path to regaining the throne began last March with a third-round knockout by Kirill Gorobets at One: Lights Out. The victory ended his two fights and brought him back to the One Featherweight division.
“I feel good, man. I’m just taking care of them all [nagging] Over the years I haven’t been able to take care of those injuries because everything has been so busy, ”Nguyen said.
“So, now and this short break in the middle of my last fight, I’ve had the opportunity to do some intense rehabilitation and re-examine my whole body.”
After defeating the Gorobets, # 3-ranked Featherweight Six redemption vs. # 2-ranked Kim J. Wong.
And at the ONE Featherweight World Championships, especially when current title holder Than Lee and # 1 No. 1 contestant Tang Kai fight for the crown on ONE 160 on August 26, if he wants one more shot, it makes sense to fight the next person in the queue.
Nguyen and Kim fought each other last September at ONE: REVOLUTION. The former One World Champion looked good in the early stages, until he made a costly mistake. The South Korean player took advantage by defeating Nguyen in the first round.
But a Sanford MMA representative claims that their rematch will lead to a different outcome. As well as being a versatile fighter who dominates both striking and grappling, he has also developed a more restrained style of fighting by reacting to what is being given to him.
“I fight as a fight; I don’t go there with a game plan. I’ll go and fight where there’s a fight. And if it hits the ground, it hits the ground. If I have a chance to present it to you, I’ll take it,” Nguyen said.
“I know how to fight; it’s up to my opponent to be ready for anything thrown at me. Whether on the ground or on the ground, it’s just a matter of being on point. Everything else will fall into place.”
This mentality will show when we face Kim again. Once the contract is signed, he will use his power to prepare for the exciting performance.
Nguyen said, “When I get the contract for this fight, man, the time has come. Overall, I feel strong and sharp, I feel good and I can’t wait to perform again.”
Next in the One Championship is ONE 159, where two-division One World Champion Rainer de Ryder will defend the One Middleweight World Championship against Vitaly Bigdash.
On the July 22 card, One Atomweight kickboxing world champion Janet Todd’s ONE interim women will compete against WBC Muay Thai world champion Lara Fernandez for the Atomweight Muay Thai World title.
