YAI which is the national federation for the sport of sailing in India and announced the Premier Kite Boarding Association, the national body representing kite boarding in India, the Yachting Association of India (YAI).
Tamil Nadu Mercantile Bank is the title sponsor of the event. The three-day event will be hosted by Aqua Outback and Tuticorin and hosted by the Tamil Nadu Sailing Association and Chennai Sailing Academy. Tamil Nadu Tourism has joined as a partner for this regatta.
All the top athletes from across the country will compete for the highest honors in the Premier Kite Boarding Event. Regatta will be governed by the rules defined in the racing rules of sailing. Kite boarding is set to begin at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Ahead of the announcement, YAI President Admiral Karambir Singh said, “Tuticorin is one of the most windy beaches in India, making it an ideal place to host wind-based water sports and to train and compete with some of the best athletes in the country. Makes a perfect area to come together. ,
Regatta will feature top kite surfers like past winners Arjun Motha, Varun Narayan, Dylan Fernandes, Philip Darnell, and Jehan Driver in the men’s section and Keona Ranjini and Katya Sani in the women’s section. Former champion Arjun Motha said, “It is going to be an exciting competition and I will do my best to retain the national title.”
Aqua Outback, Tuticorin has hosted several water sports competitions, including India’s first kitboarding championship and sea kayaking, and is now hosting the third edition of the national kitboarding championship.
Top female kite player Keona Ranjini said, “The situation in Tuticorin is ideal for regatta and aqua outback is an ideal area for organizing water sports competitions and for organizing these sports safely and securely with official national and international racing authorities.
The event will be attended by Tamil Nadu Minister for Social Welfare and Women Empowerment P Geeta Jeevan, Tamil Nadu Fisheries, Fisheries Welfare and Animal Husbandry Minister Anita R Radhakrishnan, Vilathikulam MLA GV Markandyan, Dr K Senthil. Raj IAS, Collector, Tuticorin, NP Jagan, Mayor, Tuticorin City Corporation, Tuticorin, Dr. L. Balaji Sarvanan IPS, Superintendent of Police, Tuticorin, d. Inbamani, General Manager, Recovery and Marketing, Tamil Nadu Mercantile Bank and d. Sugumar, Vice Chancellor, TNJFU Dr. Jayalalithaa Fisheries University.
