‘My reputation has been tarnished …’ What Aryan Khan, SRK told NCB during drug probe
,
Shah Rukh Khan’s son Aryan Khan was acquitted of all charges in May for possession of drugs. According to the report, Sanjay Singh, Deputy Director General (Operations) of the Narcotics Control Bureau, who is the head of the SIT behind the probe, recalled conversations with Aryan and Shah Rukh Khan during the probe.
In India Today’s cover story, Sanjay Singh recalls some ‘soul-searching’ questions about Aryan. The officer asked him, “Sir, you showed me as an international drug smuggler, that I help finance drug trafficking – aren’t these allegations nonsense?” They did not find any drugs in my person that day and yet they arrested me. Sir, you have done me a great injustice and tarnished my reputation. Why do I have to spend so many weeks in prison – do I really deserve it? “
Sanjay Singh also recalled meeting the parents of Shah Rukh Khan and other accused. Shah Rukh Khan had raised questions about Aryan’s mental and emotional state during the conversation, the official recalled. Apparently, on the brink of tears, SRK told him, “We have been portrayed as some kind of big criminal or monster who is ready to destroy society and we are working hard every day.”
Aryan Khan was arrested in October last year after drugs were found on a cruise ship off the coast of Mumbai. He spent several weeks in custody before being granted bail. Last month, the NCB gave Aryan a clean chit for lack of evidence. Meanwhile, the government has ordered action against former NCB regional director Sameer Wankhede for a “false” inquiry.
