Houston Astros' Jordan Alvarez put on injury list because hand 'damaged'

Houston Astros slugger Jordan Alvarez was placed on a 10-day injury list on Sunday with swelling in his right arm.

According to the Houston Chronicle, Astros manager Dusty Baker told reporters, “Jordan has been battling the injury for weeks and it’s getting worse.” “We decided, hey, the only way to get to this well is to try to use this (series) before the All-Star break, which is at 10 IL.”

Baker told reporters that an injury to the swing during a game on June 18 was “hurting every swing.”

The outfielder and assigned hitter will miss the next two series of the Astros before the All-Star break and may not be able to play in the All-Star game.

He leads the Astros in hits (82), batting average (.306), home runs (26), RBI (60), base percentage (.405), slugging percentage (.653) and ops (1.058).

Outfielder Jose Siri was recalled from Triple-A Sugar Land in the same move.

With a 12-game lead over the Seattle Mariners entering Sunday’s game in the American League West, the Astros are currently the second-highest divisional leaders in the major leagues.
