Former USFL linebacker Christian Sam signed with the Cowboys

Linebacker Devante Bond was placed on the injured reserve to accommodate Sam due to a knee injury, the Cowboys announced on their website on Friday.

Sam, a resident of Allen, Texas, was drafted by the New England Patriots from the state of Arizona in the sixth round in 2018 and was an injured reserve during their Super Bowl season. He still wants to play regular season NFL games and has been on various practice teams ever since.

Sam played nine games for the breakers, a total of 54 tackles, eight tackles and one interception. New Orleans advanced 6-4 in the regular season, finishing second in the South Division to qualify for the playoffs.

The Breakers lost 31-17 to eventual champions Birmingham in the semifinals.
