Florida Atlantic Beach volleyball coach Capri Grotowski has died at the age of 38 from breast cancer.

Boca Raton, Fla. – Florida Atlantic Beach volleyball coach Capri Grotowski died Saturday after nearly a decade-long battle with breast cancer, the university said. She was 38 years old.

He trained at FAU for eight years, often treating and dealing with the consequences of his illness. This past season was the most successful of his career with the Ovals, with his team winning 23-12, winning the NCAA Championship and Grotovsky being selected as the Conference USA Coach of the Year.

“The death of coach Grotowski is a terrible loss for the FAU family,” said John Kelly, the university’s president. “We are grateful for Capri’s service at the University and all the life he has influenced throughout his life and career.”

Grotovsky’s family includes husband Steve Grotovsky – who competed in beach volleyball for her native Great Britain at the 2012 London Olympics – and their two children.
