Eric Ten Hague is an optimistic but warning word for Manchester United youth

Ten Hogg was appointed in May as the successor to interim manager Ralph Rangnik, following in the footsteps of Germain and Ole Gunnar Solskier before United took over the presidency in a brilliant season.

His total of 58 points was United’s worst ever in the Premier League, while in the 2021-22 campaign they failed to complete the league campaign with a positive goal difference for the first time in more than 30 years.

That 58-point run saw David Moyes – and six less than Ryan Giggs – and his caretaker replacement, Ryan Giggs – manage the 2013-14 season, the first since Alex Ferguson’s retirement.

While many players are coming to the end of the road with United, all the signs point to a massive rebuild on the transfer window; He needs 10 runs after Ranganik’s suggestion, while some young players were expected to get a chance.

On the transfer front things haven’t really gone as planned yet, left-hander Tyrell Malaysia is the only new face, but United have joined a number of youngsters at the traveling party on their pre-season tour.

Charlie Savage, Zidane Iqbal, Alejandro Garnacho, Nathan Bishop, Matez Cowar, Ethan Laird, James Garner, Faisundo Palestri and Amad Diallo are all waiting to present their claims with United in Bangkok, but Ten Hagen may not be aware of them. How hard will it be to impress them?

“They learn what I want to see but they show themselves because they want to get a place in top football,” Ten Haag told MUTV.

“You have to be fit for your position. That means you have to give every day, which requires a certain style, a certain lifestyle to adapt to, which they probably don’t know yet.

“But I’m really looking forward to seeing if they can do it.

“I hope one or two, they can prove themselves and get on the team, but if they want to get into the dressing room, they have to qualify.”

United will play their first pre-season match – and the first under Ten Hague – in Bangkok on Tuesday when they face bitter rivals Liverpool.

They will face Melbourne Victory, Crystal Palace, Aston Villa, Atletico Madrid and Rio Vallecano in the pre-season, followed by Ten Hague’s first match on July 31 at Old Trafford.
