Cristiano Ronaldo misses Man United’s return for ‘family reasons’

Sources told ESPN that Cristiano Ronaldo will not train with Manchester United on Monday as the club has allowed him to return late due to “family reasons”.

United International will begin their pre-season schedule in Carrington, and manager Eric Ten Hague has taken an extra week off after attending games for his country in June.

Ronaldo, however, has been given increased rest. The team will be out for a pre-season tour of Thailand and Australia on Friday.

Sources told ESPN that the news came after the 37-year-old told his Old Trafford boss he wanted to leave the club this summer.

Ronaldo, who scored 24 goals last season, is looking forward to playing in the Champions League and has doubts about United’s ambition to challenge for the top trophy.

Sources told ESPN that Chelsea, Bayern Munich and Napoli are interested clubs.

United have insisted that Ronaldo is not for sale and has a “desire and expectation” to be part of the Ten Hague squad next season.

This summer, Ten Hague, along with Marcus Rashford and Anthony Marshall, beat Darwin Nunez to lead the Dutch. The focus is on signing an all-rounder instead of 9.

Meanwhile, sources told ESPN that United are expected to complete the deal with Tyrell Malaysia on Monday.

The left-back is in Carrington to take the second half of his medical before moving on from Feyenoord. The 22-year-old is set to secure his first contract under The Hague and should be part of the squad that leaves for Bangkok on Friday.
