Brooklyn, Mass. – Bryson Dechambeau says he has no plans to play in the PGA Tour Travelers Championship at TPC River Highlands next week.
The 2020 US Open winner, Dechembu, joined the Saudi-backed LIV golf invitation series last week. Addressing the crowd at The Country Club, he briefed the passengers on the situation but did not ask any questions.
“So far, I’m not playing next week,” Dechambu told ESPN on Wednesday.
Several media outlets reported last week that Dechambu will be joining the LIV Golf Series, which The signing was announced on Twitter on Friday,
The PGA Tour has suspended 17 players from participating in the first LIV golf tournament in London last week.
Two-time major winner Dustin Johnson was one of several players who resigned from his PGA Tour membership after deciding to join the new series, but Dechenbuy, who has not played in London, has not yet resigned.
DeChambeau’s final PGA Tour is expected to take place, with the next LIV golf event starting June 30 in Portland, Oregon. Patrick Reed and Pat Perez’s fellow PGA Tour golfers have also joined LIV Golf since last week’s event in London.
Arriving at the country club on Monday, Dechambu told the golf channel that his decision to join the new series was a “business decision” and “for my family’s future.”
“There was a lot of financial situation … I was able to make a living outside of the game of golf,” Dechambu told the Golf Channel. ,,
