Rich Hill Lease Start vs. Boston Red Sox. Chicago Cubes sprained left knee

Boston Red Sox left-hander Rich Hill was placed on a 15-day injury list on Saturday, a day after leaving his debut against the Chicago Cubs with a sprained left knee.

Right-handed pitcher Phillips Valdez was called up from Triple-A Worcester to replace Hill.

Hill took a 4-0 lead in four innings on Friday before being knocked out in the fifth inning by three runs. He said that on the fifth ball he felt “pop” in the knee and in a moment felt like he could play something.

Hill was seen moving his left leg at one point in the fifth and was approached by an athletic trainer. He was out after hitting a batsman to load the base with two outs. The Cubs will rally for a 6-5 victory.

“I feel stupid for being stubborn to be honest with you,” Hill said later, “he felt great” before the fifth inning. “Put us in a really bad situation and unfortunately, my stubbornness and desire to compete affect me.”

Hill, 42, is 4-4 with a 4.20 ERA this season.
