Matthew Wolf is the latest to leave the PGA Tour for LIV Golf, sources said

Matthew Wolf, whose meteor shower at the start of his PGA Tour career was as surprising as his struggles in recent months, is the latest player to blame in the LIV golf invitation series, sources confirmed to ESPN on Sunday.

The 23-year-old Wolf plans to play in this week’s LIV golf tournament at Pumpkin Ridge in Portland, Oregon, which will be her first tournament in the United States. An announcement is expected on Monday.

Wolf, whose unorthodox swing made him one of the most popular young players on the tour, finished 40th in the Travelers Championship at the TPC River Highlands in Cromwell, Connecticut on Sunday. This could be the start of his last PGA tour, as Commissioner Jay Monahan has suspended members indefinitely upon entering the LIV golf event.

The Telegraph of London reported that Wolf had left the PGA Tour.

A star player from Oklahoma State, Wolf became a pro in June 2019 and won after less than a month of playing in the 3M Open on a sponsor’s waiver. Wolf made a 26-foot eagle put on the 72nd hole, defeating Bryson Dichembeu and Colin Morikawa. He finished fourth at the 2020 PGA Championships, his first in the Major and second at the Winged Foot 2020 US Open.

But Wolf has struggled a lot in the last two seasons. He took a two-month vacation from golf in 2021 to focus on his mental health. He returned to the US Open, where he finished 15th. He has missed seven of the last 12 cuts this season and has not made it to the top 25. He is ranked 74th in the official world golf rankings.

LIV Golf may also announce the addition of Spain’s Eugenio Chacara, the world’s second-ranked amateur player. Chakra said on Twitter on Sunday that he was leaving Oklahoma State and turning pro. He wrote that he “got a chance I can’t deny.”

Chakra wrote, “This is one of those trains that goes once in a lifetime.”
