Rohit went into isolation
“Team India captain Rohit Sharma has tested positive for Covid-19 after the Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) on Saturday,” BCCI secretary Jai Shah said in a media release.
“He is currently in isolation in a team hotel and is being monitored by the BCCI’s medical team,” the release said. An RT-PCR test will be conducted on Sunday to find out its CT value. ”

Rohit played a practice match against LCCC
Rohit had batted on the first day of the ongoing practice match against Leicestershire, but did not return the next day. He did not bat in the second Indian innings. KS Bharat, who scored 70 * in the first innings against LCCC, started the innings for the visitors with Shubhaman Gill in the second innings.
The Mumbaikar is expected to start the innings with Gill in the remaining fifth Test and his participation will now depend on the result of his RT-PCR test and recovery.

Ashwin is associated with Team India
India’s senior off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin also joined the team in Leicester earlier this week after recovering from covid-19. Before the team left for the UK, the Tamil Nadu cricketer had tested positive for the epidemic and was in isolation.
Twicker arrived in England on 23 June but did not participate in the four-day tour game.

Bumrah to captain Team India?
If Rohit Sharma stays in isolation for six days, the team management will have to go with another captain for the Test match starting July 1.
Fast bowler Jaspreet Bumrah – who has been appointed vice-captain of the Test team – will lead the national team in Rohit’s absence.
Thus, Bumrah, who leads India in Tests, will become the first fast bowler in 35 years after veteran all-rounder Kapil Dev.
Bumrah is India’s leading wicket-taker in all formats and could lead the entire team in the Edgbaston Test.

Rishabh Pant to captain Team India?
India’s wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant is also a contender to lead the national team in the remaining fifth Test against England.
If the team management feels that the additional responsibility of leading the team in a crucial Test match could affect Bumrah’s performance, they can go with 24-year-old Rishabh Pant.
Pant recently led India’s T20I team against South Africa at home and, despite trailing 0-2 in the five-match series, made a strong comeback as captain to level the series 2-2. Team India won the series in a row and advanced to the decisive fifth match which was canceled due to rain.
As team management seeks long-term captaincy options in the future, it could give the young player a chance to lead in the red-ball format.
