NEW YORK – Luis Severino was scratched Thursday night while making his debut for the New York Yankees against the Tampa Bay and was placed on the Covid-19 injury list.

New York said right-hander Clark Schmidt will replace Severino.

Severino is 4-1 with a 2.80 ERA and the 28-year-old right-handed batsman was to make his 100th debut in the final of the series.

The 26-year-old right-hander scored 15 runs in 19 innings to take a 3-2 lead with a 3.26 ERA in 11 relief pressures.

New York selected right-hander Ryan Weber from Triple-A Scranton / Wilkes-Barre. Weber is 4-12 with a 5.28 ERA in seven major league seasons, including Boston, Seattle, Atlanta, Tampa Bay and Milwaukee, and is 2-2 with a 2.95 ERA this year, and Scranton has seen four starts and four releases.

Left-hander Jalen Becks (1-1, 1.38) was to open the scoring in place of Drew Rasmussen, who suffered a 15-day injury to his left arm.
