Three clubs affiliated with Manuel Akanji

The Swiss International has done well for the German giants since their exit from FC Basel in 2018. However, he is unlikely to be a Dortmund player after the transfer window.

Many of the top clubs in Europe are monitoring the condition of the 26-year-old for a ball-playing defender. Akanji was a regular player for Borussia Dortmund last season, playing 35 matches in all competitions at once in the process.

Overall, the Swiss international has played a total of 155 matches for Borussia Dortmund so far, while capping 41 times for his country. Here, we look at the three possible destinations of the rescuer.

Inter Milan

Inter, who had won the Serie A title last season, were trailing AC Milan. Simone Inzaghi’s side will definitely be looking to reclaim Scudetto this season, and his relationship has been linked to a move to Akanji.

Inter have a lot of quality and depth at the center of the defense, but could still be strengthened by a pair of Akanji, especially if Milan Scribin left the club.

Arsenal

Arsenal are trying to strengthen their defensive rank this summer and Akanji is rumored to be targeting them. With Ben White, Gabriel, William Saliba, Rob Holding and Pablo Marie, the Gunners have no shortage of options at the center of the defense.

Mikel Arteta is believed to be looking for a defender to play the ball and Akanji certainly sits in the bill. Either his foot is on the ball and he is confident and can easily spray passes from the backline.

Manchester United

United failed to make a defensive impact last season and Eric Ten Haag is clearly trying to resolve the situation. The Red Devils are lagging behind in terms of numbers but have lost consistency.

While captain Harry Maguireā€™s season was memorable, Rafael Varane also struggled to make an impact. Akanji will definitely upgrade to Old Trafford to the liking of Eric Bailey, Victor Lindelof and Phil Jones.
