The Formula One team will discuss cost cap adjustments at a meeting in Austria on Friday to reflect rising energy costs and inflation, although the deal is still weeks away.
The situation will be discussed by the FIA Formula One Commission ahead of the Austrian Grand Prix at the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg.
Williams team boss Just Capito told reporters at Silverstone last weekend: “Since the commission is only scheduled for two hours, we have to align very quickly. I think we’re discussing a number of options.”
“I’m sure we’ll find a deal that works for all of us,” he continued.
McLaren’s Andreas Siddle hopes the meeting will “settle for the best interests of the game and close the subject.”
Others said the financial group could be asked to submit a final plan before the August holiday.
Top teams say unforeseen global events such as the war in Ukraine have made it impossible for them to survive in the 140 million budget cap, and they have called it a dire situation.
Toto Wolf, owner and co-owner of Mercedes F1, told reporters in May that his team’s energy bill at the Brackley factory in England had risen from ₹ 2.5 million (₹ 3.00 million) to ₹ 6.5 million, as well as increased freight costs.
“It will be interesting to see what the FIA presents. They’ve openly promised to come back to us with an offer, so we’ll listen with interest to see what we put on the table, ”said Red Bull’s Christian Horner.
Renault-owned Alpine’s Otmar Shafnaur, who said in May that major teams should spend less on development if they fear budget caps could be depleted due to inflationary pressures, felt more open to growth in specific areas.
“If it is right, we will evaluate it and vote accordingly,” he said.
Other issues to discuss include new power unit rules for 2026, although the final vote is still some time away.
