SAN DIEGO – Outfielder Bryce Harper of the Philadelphia Phillies, who was hit by Blake Snell’s 97 mph in the fourth inning against the San Diego Padres on Saturday night, suffered a clear injury to his right arm.
The nature of the injury and its extent were not immediately known. Harper, who was Phillies’ appointed hitter, was replaced by Johan Camarago.
Harper checked his swing and the pitch went up towards his shoulder. The ball was hitting the outside of his right hand. Harper immediately fell to the ground and was in pain as Phillips’s trainer took care of him as he put his hands on his knees.
As Harper was halfway through the Philadelphia dugout, he started yelling at Snail and headed for the paddles starting pitcher with an injured hand. Snell finally yelled something at Harper. Several Petco Park fans started yelling at Harper a few seconds later, Harper yelling at Snail.
Harper’s season has been strong as the Phillies have been trying to make a slow start, resulting in the sacking of former manager Joe Girardi. In Saturday’s match, Harper led the team in batting average (.320), hits (77) and RBI (48).
