A court in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, has sentenced Bollywood actor and Congress leader Raj Babbar to two years in prison for assaulting a polling official.
Babbar was convicted of voluntarily injuring a public servant and three other offenses to prevent him from performing his duties. The court also fined him Rs 8,500.
An FIR was lodged against Babbar by a polling official during the May 1996 elections. A complaint was lodged at the Wazirganj police station here. At that time, Babbar was contesting from Samajwadi Party.
Babbar was present in the court room when the verdict was heard.
